The U.S.S. Patton was one of many auxiliary carriers constructed for the Union fleet. The Patton served primarily as a support ship for a larger taskforce.
The Patton was assigned to the Imperial 4th Colonial Fleet which primary task was maintaining system security and combating piracy.
The Patton saw her first real engagement in 2296 during the Battle of Van Gaal VI. Under the command of Captain Krauer, with Commander Peters as X.O. and Major Caine as the Air Wing Commander aboard, the ship and the U.S.S. Tigershark (SGB-994) were the only two surviving ships, retreating after the destruction of the U.S.S. Roanoke (SDD-1081).
The Patton returned to the 4th Fleet, where Caine was transferred off-ship and Captain Webster was promoted to acting-Air Wing Commander.
In 2297 the Patton was transferred to the Imperial 8th Colonial Fleet to assist in the invasion of Hoyle Prime. It was fighters and bombers from the Patton that assisted in the famed aerial bombardment of the planet which was heralded by the ground forces.
In 2299 the Patton and U.S.S. Hornblower (SDD-1073) were ordered to Earth to receive troops and pilots for the upcoming invasion of Toyr’diablo in the Reinager System. It was at Earth that the Patton picked up a re-activated Major Caine to resume duties as the ships Air Wing Commander.
The Patton and Hornblower immediately set course for the planet Fiersis in the Granedee System to rendezvous with the Reinager Invasion Group. From there it was onto Toyr’diablo itself and invasion.
The invasion was initially very successful, Firehawks from Sabre squadron assisted in defeating an initial wave of Dakota Space Superiority Fighters launched from the surface.
However on the morning of 8th October the Patton and her invasion group were attacked by a Dakota Strike Force that jumped in right on top of them. The command ship U.S.S. Canberra (SCG-2008) was destroyed early in the battle due to a lucky Dakota torpedo striking her Plasma Armament Reactor Room. This led to complete confusion amongst the Union Invasion Group with Captain Krauer adding to this by ordering a retreat and then being countermanded.
The Patton attempted to retreat but due to the confusion of battle she rammed headfirst into a very damaged U.S.S. Hornblower, the Patton’s bridge was totally annihilated and both ships were lost from the collision.
