The U.S.S. Hammer was initially assigned to Imperial Carrier Group A in the Blackmane Sector, where she served along the borders of Union territory for the first thirteen years of her life.
In 2291 she came under attack from Dakota privateers and while she managed to destroy her attackers she suffered heavily. Thankfully for the efforts of then-Lieutenant Sears the Hammer was repaired enough to return to dry-dock where she underwent months of upgrades and repairs getting her back to full strength.
Under the command of Captain Stark and now Lieutenant-Commander Sears in 2297 the Hammer was transferred to the Imperial 8th Colonial Fleet to assist in Operation Hammer Fall – the invasion of Hoyle.
The following year the Hammer went into dry-dock for further upgrades, mainly the upgrade of her hull. Imperial 8th Colonial Fleet Command after the discovery of the Dakota super-cannons from the Battle of Van Gaal VI sought to upgrade the armour of their vessels from the ageing Multi-Layered P.E.S.C.A.H. (Plasma Enriched Super-Chobam Armoured Hull) to the more powerful and newly created P.H.A.R.A.O.H. Armour.
In 2299 the Hammer was assigned to Operation Red Dirt – the invasion of Toyr’diablo, the Hammer was thus transferred to the Reinager Invasion Group.
