John Caine

Caine served aboard the U.S.S. Foxton Grove (SCE-529) as a squadron leader, during one the early encounters with the Dakota Republic along the frontier his fighter was crippled and was rescued by a young pilot named Ellis Webster. The two became close friends from then on.
Caine was promoted to Major and assigned as Air Wing Commander onboard the Auxiliary Carrier – the U.S.S. Patton (SCA-703), his first order was to have Webster transferred under him.
In 2296, the outer rim world of Maya was attacked by Dakota forces, Caine’s wife and child along with millions of other civilians were forced to evacuate aboard refugee ships bound for Earth.
The CSV Nile Road (TC-26) carrying Caine’s family was attacked as it passed through the Van Gaal system, the Patton and a handful of other ships were rushed to the rescue.
However, a new Dakota weapon saw many of the Union ships destroyed and a retreat was ordered, Caine was unable to save his family and watched as their ship was destroyed. This event led to the official declaration of war against the Dakota Republic on 12th October 2296.
After this Caine transferred to the Air Force Special Operations Regiment (AFSOR) under Major-General Howell, but after a year Caine transferred again to the Strategic Reserve and went into a life of solitude, farming on the American Continent and holding a bitter grudge against certain superiors who ran out on the civilians in the Van Gaal system.
Two years passed before the Union caught up with Caine again.
