Gaff always dreamed of joining the Imperial Fleet and defend Earth from the Dakota, however being born on a colony meant he would only ever serve in a Colonial Fleet Group and never in Sol. Undeterred Gaff still joined the Guardian Point Imperial Air Academy on Alpha Centauri in January 2297 and six months later was in his own cockpit flying off the U.S.S. Patton (SCA-703) from the Imperial 8th Colonial Fleet.
Gaff flies in Sabre Squadron in the number 3 position, under the new command of Major Caine who took over as Squadron leader from Captain Webster who now serves as Squadron X.O.
On 7th October 2299 Gaff was placed in command of Sabre Squadron after both Caine and Webster set off to locate the U.S.S. Hammer (SDD-1114).
This had Gaff leading the squadron during the First Battle of Toyr’diablo after the arrival of the Dakota Strike Force in the early hours of 8th October. Gaff obtained numerous kills and did the best he could to keep his people alive, however due to the disastrous loss of the U.S.S. Canberra (SCG-2008) and the confusion of authority which followed, the remnants of the Invasion Group were forced to retreat. Gaff and 1st Lieutenant Clarke Mackhausse (Sabre 4) only barely escaped with their lives landing aboard the U.S.S. Hazen Dunfee (SCE-544) before it jumped out of the system.
Sabre squadron considers Gaff a great asset and a dependable wingman to have watching their six. Gaff is eager to fight and very keen to kill Dakota.
