Saturday Weekly Roundup: 4th September 2010

First off I’d like to make note of the 7.1 Earthquake that struck Christchurch early this morning, I hope any Christchurch watchers are okay, and didn’t wake up to too much damage to their homes.

With the decision to stick with the 2D characters, work has commenced on Part 13 despite some lines still not being in. Luckily those lines are needed only toward the end of the part, so hopefully they come in soon so that the production doesn’t stall.

We’re going to see a few significant things occur in Part 13 so it should be a good watch when it’s finished.

This week has been hugely productive for Part 13 with it now at 60% completion, I imagine that we will have it released this coming week.

So stay tuned this week.

Saturday Weekly Roundup: 28th August 2010

Last week I stated that all the characters of Frontier were going 3D – and had modeled a Devers for you to see. Well after struggling for a week with movements and actions and having very little luck and also seeing how long it has taken to get this far it has led me to believe that perhaps I may postpone the 3D characters until the second Frontier movie, which will take place most likely while I’m attending animation school, so I should be more clued up.

Also I fear the processing power required would have seen many system crashes, so until such time it’s back to the tried and true formula of 2D/3D hybrid.

As far as Part 13 goes, still waiting on the last few lines to come in before production can begin.

Until next week.

Saturday Weekly Roundup: 21st August 2010

This week has seen a revolution in Frontier – the old 2D characters are out the door, the new characters for Part 13 are going to all be completely 3D Modelled. Right here we have Private Devers, looking very serious. This will free up the previous constraints encountered by this production, such as more fluid and free camera movements, better perspective, better actions sequences(fights, chases, the list goes on and on), etc.

So I hope you all approve of the new direction, it is my hope it brings up the quality of the film. Previously you may have noticed certain times where there were limitations on character angles, as all we saw was – Front/Side/Back, now we can go everywhere.

The modeling is being done using side and front shots of the original characters, to try and keep it as close to the original as possible.

In regard to Part 13, we are still getting the voice lines back from the voice actors, most of the scenes have been modelled, but as we are overhauling the characters, this Part might be coming out a bit later than usual.

Stay tuned for more next week.

PS. A big thanks to a certain Mr J Voruz for giving me a kick in this direction.

Saturday Weekly Roundup: 14th August 2010

A big happy 12th birthday to Wing Commander CIC this week just been! It looked awesome, so many new posts on the site in one day.

Also Happy 1st Birthday to Frontier as Part 1 was released exactly 1 year ago today (as it’s still August 13th in most parts of the world).

Pre-production has been the order of the day this week, with the loyal voice actors going over their scripts and sending me their lines, then possibly redoing them again in different ways – thanks guys for all your efforts, you know who you are.

In Part 13 we are going to see No’ocar’ytic (pronounced ‘Na-ooca Yidic’) – the Dakota Colony on Toyr’diablo – so that means that the colony has to be created. And thus sketches of the particular Spartan Dakota colony buildings have been done, and the modeling and skinning has also begun.

The Dakota colony will be sizably the biggest scale model in the entire movie. You can see here the process with the sketches (very crap ones as I’m a pretty shoddy sketcher) (but please note that Frontier PTD coffee mug! A nice addition to any scifi followers computer desk), and after the sketches comes the modeling, you can see how it goes here.

So that’s what’s happening with Part 13 at the moment, stay tuned for more next week and don’t forget that Wednesday (Tuesday for the most of the world) is now the official ‘Item of the Week’ day, where I will be posting another article to go into the Frontierpedia. So keep you eyes on the site that day.

Saturday Weekly Roundup: 7th August 2010

This week has had a lot of exposure for Frontier, which has been a very good thing. Visioweb has given Frontier its very first review, and also Scifinal has listed Frontier amongst its web series. And also WCNews has as always been doing pieces on Frontier quite a bit these last two weeks.

In terms of Production, now that Part 12 is out, and also the new trailer and movie poster, I’ve been taking it easy, Part 13 needed a little bit of fleshing out on the dialogue, which has been done now and the lines have been emailed to all the appropriate voice actors.

At this stage Part 13 is in the pre-production stage. But we’re moving along.

So until next Saturday,

Lew

Saturday Weekly Roundup: 31st July 2010

This week has seen the release of Part 12 as promised, I hope that everyone enjoyed the episode.

Now that the episode is out I will be looking at updating a few items on the site itself. I will be resuming the weekly item – however it will now be one a week, and it could be anything – a character, capital ship, small ship, planet, battle?  I will be updating some older profiles too, I will let you know here what has been updated when it happens.

I have also scene numbered the remainder of Frontier – Prelude to Darkness and the entire movie will number 61 Scenes – we have just seen Scene 25 with Part 12 so that gives you an idea of where the story progression is at the moment.

I have also put together a full new trailer for Frontier Prelude to Darkness – see it here.

So in the meantime, stay tuned – there’s much more to come.

Saturday Weekly Roundup: 24th July 2010

Sorry everyone, another brief update this week.

I decided rather than clog it up releasing two episodes at the same time, that I would release Part 11 now and Part 12 when it’s finished whish should be about a week or so.

Part 12 is coming along now at 71% – lot’s of action in this part as it is now purely a space battle scene. Keep checking the updates on facebook.

Stay tuned for more next week (and hopefully the release of Part 12)
