Character of the Week: Warren Esteban

Warren Esteban put in his hard yards as an officer in the Union Navy, the U.S.S. Asimov (SDX-6152) was his first command after his promotion to Captain in 2298.

Esteban had personally requested command of the vessel as he had seen his fair share of combat and was quite happy to be out of harm’s way for awhile.

However this intention was not to be realized, as in 2299 the Asimov was lost in the Reinager system after being sent there under secret orders from Union High Command.

Esteban is now listed as missing in action along with the crew of the Asimov and the ship itself.

Laski was transferred to the U.S.S. Asimov (SDX-6152) of the Imperial 8th Colonial Fleet in 2295 as chief weapons officer, by 2297 he was the executive officer serving under Captain Esteban.

In 2299 Laski and his ship were ordered into enemy territory to run research on a newly discovered black hole that had been detected there. He was more than unimpressed with the lack of any sort of escort on such a dangerous mission.

Ender was demoted back to 2nd Lieutenant.

A years later Ender found himself and his men being prepared for the invasion of Toyr’diablo, with his depleted numbers his platoon took on some replacements – namely Privates Devers, Keller and Anderson. Character of the Week: Xavier Zariz IV

In the early Dakota skirmishes, Xavier ordered the Union to wipe out any resistance. It was also Xavier’s orders that put officers (such as Captain Krauer) in charge of ships, who may not have been completely competent, but were however extremely zealous in their loyalty to the Union and their desire to see the Dakota destroyed.

One month later Xavier signed the armistice (on the Emperor’s orders) with Admiral Peragonn – the top Admiral in the Dakota fleet.

With resumption of hostilities breaking out in mid 2296, Xaiver found he had a much more active role in military affairs. Such as fleet deployments, planetary invasions and secret operations.

Xavier took charge of the operation concerning the U.S.S. Assimov (SDX-6152), the details of the ships mission remain highly top-secret. However when the ship was lost soon after it entered the Reinager System, Zariz contacted Major-General Andrew Howell of AFSOR (Air Force Special Operations Regiment) and ordered him to find a capable officer to locate and survivors or information on the Assimov.

Howell in turn re-activated Major John Caine of the Strategic Reserve to carry out this special mission. Zariz personally attended the briefing and gave Caine his orders.

Xavier is extremely loyal to what the Union stands for; he genuinely is a believer that a governing body like the Union should better humankind, making them ready to give their lives to defend their empire, their loved ones and their homes.

Character of the Week: Matthew ‘Red’ Groenan

Red and his squad were firstly involved in securing a Dakota space station and after that were dropped into the invasion of Hoyle Prime itself.

Red would later call this drop the most anti-climatic action he had ever been involved in, hours before the drop the Air Force had launched one of its most devastating bombing campaigns of the war to that point, when Red and his fellow soldiers landed they found the entire surface in ruins as Hoyle Prime’s surface was so dense it was impractical to dig bunkers and basements.

Red’s Platoon and his squad encountered extremely minor resistance and after only two hours they were able to declare victory.

Groenan has mastered a dirty and sometimes dark sense of humour, a trait from his upbringing and also a mechanism to deal with the war, this does not take away from the fact he is one of the most dependable members of the squad if not the entire Platoon.
