Saturday Weekly Roundup: 28th August 2010
Last week I stated that all the characters of Frontier were going 3D – and had modeled a Devers for you to see. Well after struggling for a week with movements and actions and having very little luck and also seeing how long it has taken to get this far it has led me to believe that perhaps I may postpone the 3D characters until the second Frontier movie, which will take place most likely while I’m attending animation school, so I should be more clued up.
Also I fear the processing power required would have seen many system crashes, so until such time it’s back to the tried and true formula of 2D/3D hybrid.
As far as Part 13 goes, still waiting on the last few lines to come in before production can begin.
Until next week.

Go Lew!
It’s probably for the best. Twelve parts with 2D characters and then all of a sudden the characters are in 3D, that might be a little jarring. I think a somewhat coherent animation style, even if it’s less sophisticated, will only benefit Frontier. But a future Frontier with 3D characters will definitely be something to look forward to.
I agree with your choice. This way the work will go on faster and Frontier will retein its “visual style” (which I like a lot by the way
But I also wish you good luck with the 3D version in the second Frontier movie!
Hey thanks everyone for the support and understanding here, you guys are what keeps frontier alive
Long time lurker, first post: I’m actually *quite* relieved to hear that the 2D character models are here to stay. I came to like the distinctive “Frontier style” very much. My thought about that Devers 3D model of yours was that it somehow looked a bit sterile (actually like all those models we know from commercial 3D-cartoon productions like “Toy Story”, “Shrek” and such).
Great work Lew! Keep it up!
Holy crap at day one it’s at 14% completion?! That’s a new record!
