Saturday Weekly Roundup: May 29th 2010

Hey folks, it’s been a mildly productive week, Part 11 is at around 30% complete, there’s a lot I’m trying to pack into this one, and I intend for it to be pretty explosive when it’s finished.

You may have noticed there was no craft profile this week, well the simple answer to that is, at the moment I will be suspending the Character of the Week, Ship of the Week and Craft Profile sections as most of them have been covered. As there is to be a lot more newer ships, characters, craft that will be appearing in the upcoming parts, I will re-start these sections after we’ve got there.

I’m sure you’ll all agree with me that the time is better spent actually getting these parts out to you.

The good news is that the Saturday Weekly Roundup will continue as normal. It’s very important you see how the progress is coming along.

You’ll notice there is now a facebook section on the side of the website – a special thanks to Johnny Voruz for that – this is great as now you can see the progress indicator of each part and also have the option to ‘like Frontier’ on facebook and if you haven’t already I hope you do so, and if your friends and family like science fiction, tell them to do it too :)

On the web this week I was overjoyed to see dasboschitt release The Gmod Idiot Box Episode 9 – it’s an acquired humor that’s for sure, but I find it absolutely hilarious.

Well that’s it for me for now.

Stay tuned for more later.

Character of the Week: Harvey Skillen

Skillen was born in the Pacific Island Region of Earth, his parents were originally from Wales in the Northern European Region who had been stationed there.

Skillen followed in their footsteps and joined the Navy at age 18, however unlike them he chose an off-world station, and was assigned to the U.S.S. Hammer (SDD-1114) as a Hangar Bay Control Operator.

Skillen is known to be a jumpy person, making decisions is not his strong point and he does not enjoy being out of his comfort zone.

Saturday Weekly Roundup: 22nd May 2010

Work began this week on Part 11 – the scene dialogue and screen direction has been written, the majority of the lines are in from my highly valued and hugely appreciated voice actors and the animating has begun!

Part 11 is going to contain a lot more action than the last two parts, thank goodness I have been struggling to get to this point in the story for quite some time, and you will see why once Part 11 is complete and released.

Just today bought some new Nintnedo Wii games called Cursed Mountain and Secret Files 2. Cursed Mountain looks promising, however Secret Files 2 sucks a boring old man’s ballsack – lots of talking, bad voice acting, long loading times – stagnant gameplay. So in under one hour I returned Secret Files 2 back to the shop and got  a refund. I have now ordered The Conduit which is supposed to be one of the best games of the year for the Wii, so I await that one with much excitement.

So all in all, over the next week work will be going strong for Part 11 – remember to check regular progress updates on Frontier’s Facebook page.

Stay tuned for more later.

Craft Profile: UC-79 Albatross

The Albatross was introduced as the heavy unit carryall in the NextGen series. Based off the same main design as the UC-78 Raven which in turn is based off the UC-76 Condor, the Albatross gives the Army the ability to move its armour anywhere it needs it at the shortest notice.

Each Albatross has the ability to carry up to two main battle tanks or armoured support units, or up to four light vehicles.

The Albatross features four main VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) engines on its wings, making it able to land in right onto the battlefield and get out again as quickly as possible.

The Albatros’s armament is poor and fighter escort is recommended at all times.

Character of the Week: Diego Lopez

Lopez served in 2nd Squad of Baker Company alongside Private Groenan and Corporal Ross under the command of Staff Sergeant Ogilvy. Lopez enlisted shortly before Operation Hammer Fall – the Invasion of Hoyle and fought with the company there.

During Operation Red Dirt – the invasion of Toyr’diablo, Lopez was killed along with Ogilvy and various others when their UC-78 Raven Carryall crash landed on the surface of the planet.

Saturday Weekly Roundup: 15th May 2010

Well this week has been one for the books, firstly let me just take a breath and say…

I have been accepted into the Freelance Animation School for 2011!

Absolutely amazing stuff! This is a three year course and by the end of it will give me a Diploma in Applied Animation and a Diploma in Digital Media.

It was definitely high-time to get off my corporate day-job ass and go plunge into this as I’m not getting any younger and will be 31 years old by the time I finish this 3 year course in December 2013 as it is.

But don’t worry I will be continuing work on Frontier Prelude to Darkness right through. And the great thing I’ll now have more time for it, and obviously the caliber of the CGI and animation is going to rise!

So what the hell is that ugly button in the top corner you’re asking? I would be asking this too, and to be honest I’m a little ashamed to have it there at all. But truth be told I’m currently not a rich man, and will be even poorer once becoming a student next year, the course will be setting me back $8,200NZD per year which is a total of $24,600NZD over three years.

So if you do like Frontier Prelude to Darkness and want to help at all, then any donations no matter how small – 50cents? $1? $2? $24,600? (hehe) Anything at all would be massively appreciated. If you can’t? Seriously that’s fine, I’m just happy you’re watching my series at all, you’re already doing me a service by wasting roughly 8 minutes of your lives every month watching it. But yes the button is there just in case – I really don’t expect anything at all.

Fineprint time: Absolutely all proceeds will go toward the cost of the course. If you are not the credit card holder, you must seek permission from the credit card holder.

So where’s the Frontier news? Well here it is, great news here too! Part 10 is complete and up on youtube this week, I hope you enjoyed it. Again this part didn’t quite contain the action I was wanting to put into it, however this is due to running out of time.

There is a great action scene coming up and it is going straight into Part 11 which I am finishing up the dialogue for right now. I’ll get this out to my voice actors and begin work very soon, so stay tuned for that!

In internet news, I got two great projects I discovered, the first one is FRONTIER GUARD – which I stumbled onto due to the similar names between my own series and theirs, but this is awesome! The work that has gone into this is really amazing!

The other great project I’ve been following was none other than IRON SKY, this looks like it’s going to be absolutely fantastic when it comes out, the crew are amazing at keeping all their fans in the loop with regular behind the scenes updates, and now for the first time they have put together their first teaser using footage from the actual movie, this thing looks epic.

In gaming news you may remember me ranting about having some GTA gaming via LAN with a buddy of mine, well I was able to put the gameplay footage up on youtube, I absolutely suck at this game which you will be able to see, but we had a lot of fun.

Well that’s it for now folks, work on Part 11 begins.

Stay tuned for more later.
