Character of the Week: Kenny Stewart

Stewart saw 1st Platoon through their post-Hoyle operations, and stuck by Ender during his demotion back to 2nd Lieutenant.

Stewart now finds himself bound for Toyr’diablo aboard the U.S.S. Hornblower (SDD-1073) as apart of ‘Operation Red Dirt’ – the invasion of Toyr’diablo.

The men of 1st Platoon view Stewart as a gruff fatherly figure who keeps them in their place but cares for their well being and commands their respect.

He sounds very familer to LT Charlie Bass of 3rd platoon, Lima Company, 34th Fleet Initial Strike Team or F.I.S.T. for short.

He’s a character from the series “StarFist”

Anywho, was there a reason why Hoyle was targeted as a source for invasion? Sounds like the Dakota lost big time

  • Yeah Hoyle was serving as an outpost for incursion and hit and run missions for the Dakota, so the Union invaded and by doing so also pushed their borders further out.

  • Sean:

Ah, kind of like what the Americans did at Turk to the Japanese. I cannot remember if that is the name of the island.

  • Sean:

I think that’s the name of it. I cannot for the love of me remember it. But here is what happened.

Sometime in either 1942 or 1943, the U.S. code breakers had gotten a tip through japanese communication that a large base in the south pacific needed to be refuled because it’s airbase was low on fuel.

The U.S. high command soon learned that it was a lagoon that held a great number of Japanese ships, destroyers, battleships, subs and a large airfield. They sent a strike group to smash the base.

They sent if I can remember correctly two carriers with support. The carriers launched all their planes, the planes attacked the entire lagoon, the japs were unprepared. The entire place was destroyed and the airfield was a wreck.

Great raid. Can’t remember it’s fraking name for the love of me.

  • Truk Lagoon, it was a lead up to the invasion of Saipan in February 1944 (17th and 18th I believe). lots of ships, planes, and equipment was destroyed and the US lost approximately 22 or 23 planes. As Sean said the Japaneese were completely unprepared

  • Oh and if I’m right the Island itself was named Chuuk.

  • Sean:

    I found it!

Yeah that was it, I thought it was Truk not Turk.

Yeah Hoyle sounded like Turk a little

  • Sean:

Will there be combat in this scene?
